        <![CDATA[<p>After a dismal first quarter of 2008, data center stocks roared back to huge gains in the second quarter, with 9 out of 12 publicly held companies scoring double-digit gains. All but one data center specialist beat the Dow, which declined 7.44 percent in the second quarter, while the S&amp;P 500 fell 3.3 percent and the NASDAQ managed a 0.6 percent gain.</p><p>The surge marked a solid recovery from the <a href="http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2008/Apr/01/data_center_stocks_bruised_in_first_quarter.html">first quarter</a>, when all 13 stocks we track lost ground (one company, Bladelogic, has since been acquired). Shares of data center companies were beaten up early in the year by concerns that the credit crunch and losses in the financial sector would lower demand for data center services.</p>]]>

XRTX is expected to earn 11 cents for the quarter. We believe they will report a number that will exceed investors&rsquo; and analysts&rsquo; expectations. Xyratex popped 15% after surprising by 3 cents last quarter. We believe they will beat by at least a penny.</p> <p>There has been a recent tug-of-war between analysts as Baird and Wachovia have recently downgraded the stock while the Bank of Montreal upped its forecast. <font style="color: rgb(253, 114, 22);"><b>The Correct Call</b></font> is siding with the Canadians in this case. XRTX only trades at 9.72 times its forward earnings and .70 times sales. Both numbers seem fairly low for XRTX as it is expected to grow the bottom line by more than 40% in the next 12 months.</p>]]>

        <![CDATA[<p>There never seems to be a dull moment in the flash chip industry, and once again I find myself having to comment on the rollercoaster at <a href="http://www.sandisk.com/" target="new">SanDisk Corporation</a> (SNDK). On Friday, Citi analyst Craig Ellis struck again when he downgraded his recommendation for SanDisk to <span class="analysen_content"> from &quot;buy&quot; to &quot;hold&quot; </span>and cut his target price to $27 from $35. The last time he downgraded the company was in October 2006.</p><p>Ellis's move is understandable, in light of flash prices which appear to be in a state of freefall, and macro economic concerns worldwide, but at its current price, Ellis appears to have locked the stable door with the horses having already bolted, unless he knows something that we don't. Back in March, an analyst from JP Morgan lowered his recommendation and price target to around $20, and the stock duly rebounded to $33. </p>]]>
